Albany Medical Center is a 766-bed Level 1 Trauma Center and teaching hospital located in the capital of New York State and a Comprehensive Stroke Center and a Cardiac Catheterization Center. It is also home to multiple dedicated ICUs, including pediatric, medical, surgical, neurology, vascular, and cardiothoracic, totaling more than 75 critical care beds.
Our emergency department is composed of a 55-bed Level 1 Adult Emergency Department and a 24-bed Level 1 Pediatric Emergency Department. We care for patients 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. As the only tertiary care center in the capital region, our emergency department cares for an incredibly diverse patient population. In addition, Albany Medical Center receives the sickest and most complicated patients transferred to us for a higher level of specialty care. Albany Medical Center has accepted close to 30,000 patient transfers in the last two years.
PA Fellows will have the opportunity to interact with hundreds of residents and medical students, over 600 area physicians, and an expansive team of full-time attending physicians throughout the Albany Med Health System. The Emergency Department currently employs 38 attending physicians and 24 APPs, many of whom hold faculty appointments with Albany Medical College. Our providers see and treat patients of all ages and acuity through our adult and pediatric departments, observation unit and telehealth services.
