We offer PhD and MS degrees with a concentration in Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics. The program is research-oriented with strengths in neuroscience, endocrinology, therapeutics research, and much more.
First priority is given to PhD applications received by Dec. 1. Early application is recommended. We begin reviewing applications in December and hold interviews the last Friday in January. Individual interviews can also be scheduled. The deadline for MS applications is March 15.
Our Labs
The department includes Core Laboratories that provide modern instrumentation and technical support. Our labs include developmental neuroscience, neurophysiology, neuroendocrinology, dementia and cognitions, epilepsy, movement disorders, neuro-oncology, neuropsychiatric disorders, sleep disorders, and stroke and cerebrovascular diseases.
Currently, these laboratories are hosting graduate students.
MS & PhD Programs
We offer PhD and MS degrees with a concentration in Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics. Our small faculty-to-student ratio facilitates one-on-one interactions on a daily basis both in the laboratory and the classroom. Many of our research activities involve collaborations with investigators in other research programs within Albany Medical College, as well as other universities, research institutions, and corporations.
Collaborative Teams
Our graduate programs bring together a diverse group of investigators, including faculty members and numerous predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees. We aim to educate students of diverse backgrounds, foster biomedical research that leads to scientific advances and the improvement of health of the public, and respond to the needs of our community through our core values of commitment to excellence, vision and citizenship.
Course of Study
Students participate in laboratory rotations and courses that provide a broad-based education in biochemistry, cell biology and molecular biology. Students select a mentor who supervises their graduate training. They also take courses in the principles of cellular and molecular neuroscience, neuropharmacology, neuroanatomy, nervous system disorders, and statistics, and a variety of electives. Original laboratory research, literature studies and seminar presentations are essential components of the program. Presentation of research at national meetings and visits with renowned scientists brought to Albany Medical College by the DNET Seminar series enhance each student's professional development.
After Graduation
Graduates of the program go on to have successful careers in academic research, biotech, and medical fields. Students are supervised by internationally recognized faculty, our students benefit from the individual attention that the program fosters. Graduates of this program are well prepared for careers in research and teaching in a variety of academic, clinical and industry settings.
