James Desemone, MD

Dr. DesemoneDr. Desemone received a BA in Biochemistry and Physics from Canisius College in Buffalo, NY, and attended medical school at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY. He completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo Affiliated Hospitals.

Dr. Desemone completed a clinical fellowship in Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, MA, where he also participated in basic science research in autoimmune diabetes under the direction of Aldo A. Rossini, MD.

Dr. Desemone joined the faculty of Albany Medical College in 1996. From 2010 to 2013, he was the Director of Medical Staff Quality and a member of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Service at Ellis Medicine in Schenectady, NY. He returned to Albany Medical College in 2013.

Dr. Desemone is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and a Certified Physician Executive. At Albany Medical College he was the Quality and Patient Safety Officer for Graduate Medical Education, the Director of Quality for the Department of Medicine, and the Director of Quality for the Albany Med Physicians Group. His clinical, educational, and research interests focus on quality improvement, patient safety, interprofessional teamwork, and systems-based practice.

In December 2022 Dr. Desemone retired from his clinical practice as a Diabetes Specialist and Endocrinologist. He continues to work with medical students as an affiliate faculty member of the Alden March Bioethics Institute at Albany Medical College. He also enjoys contributing to the health and welfare of our communities through volunteer work at various local nonprofit organizations.

He is a member of the American Association of Physician Leaders, the American College of Physicians, the American Diabetes Association, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
