Robust Critical Care Education
The Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Program is designed to train fellows in the management of critically sick surgical patients in a team-based environment.
Albany Medical Center’s Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) accepts over 1,800 admissions per year with an average daily census of 26 patients. This distribution offers a wide variety of cases, including patients with trauma, elective and emergent vascular surgery, neurosurgical diseases and stroke, surgical oncology, and complex general surgical conditions. Fellows will also do rotations in the Pediatric ICU, Neuro ICU, Cardiothoracic ICU, Medical ICU, as well as away rotations and two electives.
Our graduates have had a 100 percent pass rate on the American Board of Surgery certification, and they complete our fellowship as competitive candidates for careers in an academic setting or private practice.
