Welcome to Albany Medical College
Albany Medical Center's interventional cardiologists perform the most advanced interventional procedures and they have been pioneers bringing the latest treatments to our patients in the northeastern New York region. From the days when we were first in the region to perform “balloon angioplasty” and to develop a cardiac catheterization lab to the present day when we were among the first in the nation to perform TAVR and to bring modern treatment for atrial fibrillation to our region, Albany Medical Center has led the way.
The mission of the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship program is to educate fellows in interventional cardiology as an integral component of an accredited sub-specialty fellowship of cardiovascular disease. The program is organized to provide training and experience at sufficient levels to ensure competency as an interventional cardiologist.
Our faculty comprise a wide range of backgrounds and interests with many holding dual certifications or other advanced degrees. In addition to providing hands-on, 24-hour department supervision and teaching, all faculty members share a commitment to creating an atmosphere that is conducive to the advancement of our specialty.
Faculty members also participate in regional and national professional organizations and research endeavors. Many also serve on national committees and organizations dedicated to the growth and development.
At every stage of the interventional cardiology program, fellows are trained not only to provide the best clinical care for their patients with acute or chronic cardiovascular disease, but also acquire the personal skills and attitudes needed to care for patients with serious, and sometimes life-threatening cardiac dysfunction. The fellows learn that it is essential for the physician to recognize, acknowledge, and to help assuage a patient's (and/or his or her family's) apprehension and fears that may arise from these serious illnesses, and the therapies proposed to treat them. The psychological aspect of their education is considered critical and is ongoing throughout the fellow's training.
Thank you for your interest in our program. Please feel free to contact us for more information.
Sincerely,
Anthony Nappi, MD
