Internal Medicine Residency

Fully accredited by the ACGME, our Internal Medicine Residency Program blends sophisticated patient care with clinical and academic excellence to prepare our residents to be exceptionally well-trained, thoughtful, and caring internists.

Exceptional Care, Supportive Environment

Our Internal Medicine Residency Program emphasizes exemplary patient care, teamwork, and clinical and academic excellence.

We believe it is our privilege as faculty to teach and learn alongside our residents as they develop throughout their training, and that it is our responsibility to create an academic environment and clinical experience that supports each resident's individual goals. We prepare our residents to be well-trained, thoughtful, and caring internists. In turn, our residents are dedicated to becoming exceptional internists, supporting each other, and working to continually improve our program.

Our curriculum is designed on adult learning theory and delivered through active engagement and a team-based learning (TBL) format. The clinical experience is robust and includes rotations in our 766-bed tertiary care facility, at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center, and in our practices throughout the Capital Region.

Our program also includes a simulation curriculum for procedures, rapid responses, and code blues; a pilot ultrasound curriculum; and quality improvement and research curriculums overseen by a QI chief and Research chief, respectively. We also have a Career Mentorship Program to facilitate the building of a strong portfolio of clinical, research, and academic activities that support each resident's career goals.

Albany Medical College is a fantastic place to train with knowledgeable faculty and opportunities to manage diverse pathologies that have pushed me to become a better clinician. My co-residents are the kind of people I want to spend time with outside of work. There is always something to look forward to: hiking trails, ski slopes, and waterways, and if that isn’t your speed then Albany’s cultural diversity means incredible food, farmers markets, and festivals.”

Albany Medical College and the greater Albany area quickly became home for my wife and me after we couples matched into our respective programs.
