Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesia Fellowship

Individualized training, supporting a busy cardiac surgery practice, in a leading-edge environment.

Individualized Training, World Class Facilities

Anesthesia care is provided by seven full-time cardiac anesthesiologists trained in transesophageal echocardiography. We work with five adult cardiac surgeons, one pediatric cardiac surgeon and three thoracic surgeons. We also provide service to a busy vascular surgery practice.

Our state-of-the-art facility includes a dedicated hybrid OR, Cath Lab and EP suites. We have three cardiac ORs and one OR dedicated to pediatric heart surgery. We are equipped with the latest TEE machines with advanced 2D and 3D capabilities (Philips EPIQ).

Our training is individualized. The fellow will provide anesthesia care for patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic and major vascular surgery at Albany Medical Center. We are fortunate to have a very active thoracic surgical group that performs close to 1,000 procedures a year. At least 600 of these include pneumonectomies, lobectomies, and wedge resections. “I'm grateful for the opportunity to train in cardiac anesthesiology at Albany Medical Center, where I encountered a diverse range of cases from open heart to structural heart disease. The program not only fostered my clinical skills but also provided opportunities for teaching residents and encouraged the exchange of ideas and the acceptance of practices from other institutions. Additionally, collaboration with multidisciplinary teams was emphasized, further enriching my experience. I'm dedicated to ensuring patient safety and advancing this specialized field through education, practice, and mentorship.”
