Starlight Children's Foundation Makeover Brightens Pediatric Clinic
November 9, 2012 - Albany , NY
ALBANY, N.Y., November 9, 2012 ‹ A rainbow of color now greets children visiting Albany Medical Center's pediatric outpatient clinic thanks to renovations funded by the Starlight Children's Foundation NY*NJ*CT.
The New York chapter of the Starlight Children's Foundation, an organization that for nearly 30 years has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with a variety of illnesses, provided almost $30,000 to brighten up the waiting area and exam rooms with vibrant colors and kid-friendly decorations.
"It was an all-white room, just like any other waiting area," said Angie Silipigno, child life specialist at Albany Med and designer of the renovation project. "Now the color and all the play activities make it a much more comfortable environment, one that makes the kids much less anxious."
"It puts the kids more at ease, taking an unpleasant situation and making it as pleasant as it can be," said Shaina Marron, program manager for the Starlight Children's Foundation in the Albany region for the NY, NJ and CT chapter.
In addition to the renovation, Starlight also provided new books, games, and other activities for the children's waiting area.
"We've had a great response from our families. Our staff has noticed the change," said Silipigno. "It's brought a new energy for everyone."
