Students care for Kids - Fundraising Ideas
Grades K-5:
- Read-A-Thon: Students collect pledges from family and friends based on how many books they read in a month. You can also host a story time for younger students and make it fun by allowing them to wear their pajamas for a Read-A-Thon day.
- Create-a-Card: Students make hand decorated holiday or mother’s and father’s day cards. Put them together in packages of 4 or 8 and sell them for $ 5. Sell them to other students as gifts.
- Change Wars: See which grade or classroom can collect the most change. Winning grade or classroom will get a sundae party provided by Albany Med.
- Bake Sale: Have class or group sell baked goods during lunch, after school or at sporting events.
- Pencil Sale: Sell Children’s Hospital pencils for $ .50. Pencils provided by Albany Med.
Grades 6-12:
- Bowl-A-Thon or Roller-A-Thon: Students fundraise in order to attend a roller-skating or bowling party. Students will solicit donations, not pledges, from friends, family and neighbors. We suggest setting the minimum amount to participate at $ 20-$40. The minimum money raised will include bowling/roller-skating, rentals, pizza and soda. **Most rinks or bowling alleys will give discounted rates for groups. Ask to get pizza and/or soda donated to keep cost down**
- Dance-A-Thon: Organize a dance where students solicit donations to attend. Hours vary depending on age group. Suggested minimum amount to attend $50-$85 depending on age group. Get pizza, beverage, and door prize donated to increase the monetary donation.
- Icon Sale: Sell Students Care for Kids icons for $1. Icons are provided. Let donors write their name on an icon and hang in school for all to see. Choose a seasonal icon or the signature SCFK heart.
- Movie Night: Host a movie night in your cafeteria, gym or auditorium. Charge $5 for admission. To raise more money, have a concession stand with candy and beverages for sale.
- Car Washes: Host a car wash after school or on a weekend during the spring. Charge $5 or more per car. Have a bake sale to occupy the drivers while they wait.
- Hat day: Have a student purchase a SCFK sticker for $2-3. On a designated day, allow them to wear a hat to school along with the sticker to show support of the Children’s Hospital.
- Teacher Denim Day: Have each teacher donate $5 to wear jeans on a designated day.
- Concession Stand Sale: Sell hotdogs, hamburgers or pizza during lunch period or at sporting event. Get food/drinks donated.
- Talent Show: Host talent show in the school auditorium for any faculty or student to show off their talents. Donation required for admission. Create ballot boxes for students to vote for their favorite performer.
COLLEGE:
- Spaghetti Dinner: Students host spaghetti dinner for the community and student body. Have local business donate food and beverages.
- Walk-A-Thon: Host walk at a local park, track or mall. Students create five person teams. Set a minimum fundraising amount per team or per individual. We suggest $50/person, $250/team or more. Have local businesses donate fruit, bagels, coffee and water. Albany Med will provide giveaways for all participants.
- Bowl-A-Thon or Dance-A-Thon: (see above)
- Kickball Tournament: Host a school-wide kickball (or other sport) tournament. Set a minimum donation per team to participate. Get a prize donated for the winning team.
