Rheumatology Fellowship

A two-year, ACGME-accredited program that offers fellows extensive clinical training and research opportunities

A Message From the Program Director

Portrait photo of Barbara OstrovThank you for your interest in the Rheumatology Fellowship program at Albany Medical College. This fellowship is an ACGME-accredited, two-year full clinical training program. Our mission is to provide fellows with a comprehensive training experience in the applied basic, clinical and research areas that are critical to their future success as rheumatologists.

The program comprises a compelling curriculum, including an intensive review of musculoskeletal functional anatomy, an immunology course with PhD candidates in the Department of Immunology and a state-of-the-art patient care practice.

As the only academic medical health system in the Capital Region, we offer fellows an in-depth patient care experience and the diversity necessary for an ideal training. Fellows have access to the top regional providers and advanced technology in several specialties, including the Intensive Care Unit, Apheresis-Dialysis Unit, Electrophysiology and other interventional services in Cardiology and Gastroenterology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and others. Moreover, the Division of Rheumatology works collaboratively with the Departments of Pathology and Radiology, consolidating the key elements for solid training formation.

Fellows gain practical patient care skills through rotations in the busy outpatient continuity clinic and the pediatric rheumatology clinic as well as through inpatient consultations. Year-round we offer multiple scholarly activities and multi-disciplinary conferences presented in collaboration with the Divisions of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Nephrology, Pathology and other services. We also promote active participation in scholarly activities at regional, national, and international meetings.

We provide fellows with a strong board preparation program and are proud to have a 100 percent ABIM board passing rate.

Please contact us with any questions. We look forward to meeting you!

Sincerely,

Barbara E. Ostrov, MD
