Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in America today. By conducting research and providing training to young scientists the Center for Cardiovascular Sciences serves as a resource to the greater Capital Region to combat cardiovascular disease.

Research: The research performed by the scientists in our center is designed to elucidate the underlying causes of the pathologies in the heart and blood vessel wall that contribute to cardiovascular disease.

Graduate Program: An important aspect of the Center is training the researchers of tomorrow through a graduate program leading to either a Master's or Doctoral degree.  The graduate program emphasizes the integration of techniques in cell and molecular biology into translational research allowing the student to learn how basic science research will ultimately lead to prevention or treatment of cardiovascular disease.
