Correctional Education
Overview
Albany Medical Center's AIDS Program (AMCAP) is one of the largest providers of HIV correctional education in the United States. According to a 2007-2008 report from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, New York State has the second largest number of HIV-infected inmates nationwide (3,500) after Florida (3,620).
AMCAP is the HIV Correctional Regional Resource Center under the New York/New Jersey AIDS Education & Training Center (NY/NJ AETC). Under the NY/NJ AETC, AMCAP develops and implements multiple HIV education programs for correctional providers to enhance their HIV treatment knowledge and expertise. Our programs include:
