Welcome to the Department of Radiology at Albany Medical Center. Radiology performs an important role in medicine today. It is easy to think that almost every patient coming to the hospital or visiting his or her doctor with a problem passes through Radiology. Our ability to take specialized pictures gives us a window into your body and provides all of the doctors involved in your care with the information they need for diagnosis and treatment.
At Albany Medical Center, patients undergoing examinations in our department get to take advantage of the most up-to-date imaging equipment available today. Whether it’s our new 3-Tesla MRI scanner, our breast tomosynthesis unit, or our multi-slice PET/CT scanner, patients can be confident that they are being imaged with the most sophisticated equipment available today. In addition, our radiologists are the largest group of subspecialized professionals in the region. This means that patients with neurologic concerns will have their imaging studies interpreted by a specialist in neuroradiology. Similarly, children visiting our department will be imaged using techniques designed for children and have those images interpreted by dedicated pediatric radiologists. This philosophy extends throughout our department and covers all areas of medicine. This includes our Interventional Radiology division, which provides minimally invasive procedures to treat a variety of medical conditions including liver, kidney, and lung cancer, uterine fibroids, deep venous thrombosis of the leg veins, osteoporosis, and many others. At Albany Med, we are also committed to safe imaging. Given the well-publicized concerns with radiation safety, we are committed to imaging patients safely and appropriately. When all of these factors are taken into consideration, we know that patients can have confidence in the services they receive from our department.
I hope that the information contained within our site is helpful to you. If you need more information about any of the services offered by our department, it is my hope that you contact us personally so that we can answer your questions. Thank you for your interest in the Department of Radiology at Albany Medical Center.
