Electronic Brain Library Developed at Albany Med Allows Students to "See" the Brain in 3-D
Medical students learning about the complicated anatomy of the brain no have a new tool available to them - an electronic brain model that allows them to "see inside" the brain and view its various structures as they appear in space. Study Shows Fast, Accurate Method for Communicating Using Brain Waves
December, 2010—Researchers at Albany Medical College have validated an experimental technology that allows people to use brain waves recorded directly from the brain’s surface to “choose” letters to spell on a computer screen at rates faster than any devices previously described. The findings, part of an ongoing funded research endeavor in brain-computer interface (BCI) at Albany Med, were presented earlier this month at the 63rd meeting of the American Epilepsy Society in Boston.  FULL STORY
International research team finds hidden sensory system in the skin
December, 2009 – The human sensory experience is far more complex and nuanced than previously thought, according to a groundbreaking new study published in the December 15 issue of the journal Pain.  In the article, researchers at Albany Medical College, the University of Liverpool and Cambridge University report that the human body has an entirely unique and separate sensory system aside from the nerves that give most of us the ability to touch and feel.  Surprisingly, this sensory network is located throughout our blood vessels and sweat glands, and is for most people, largely imperceptible.  FULL STORY
Albany Medical College Receives $4.6 Million Stimulus Grant
October, 2009 - Albany Medical College has been awarded a $4.6 million, two-year American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Program Project Grant from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). The grant will fund the College’s ongoing biodefense research against Francisella tularensis, the bacteria that causes tularemia. FULL STORY
