ALBANY COLEGE OF PHARMACY AND ALBANY MEDICAL COLLEGE - EARLY ASSURANCE PROGRAM - AN FOCUS IN THE SCIENCE OF DRUG DEVELOPMENT
MEDICAL STUDENT
The Albany College of Pharmacy/Albany Medical College Early Assurance program offers students two key advantages: the assurance of admission to medical school upon completion of their undergraduate requirements and the opportunity to acquire an extensive background in drug development from the laboratory to the bedside.

The Early Assurance program allows highly qualified ACP students in the BS Pharmaceutical Sciences curriculum to apply to medical school at the end of their sophomore year. If accepted in the program, students can then turn their attention to substantive medical research involving either basic or pharmaceutical science over the next two years, including summers. The MCAT is waived for program participants.

While carrying a full course load during their junior and senior years, students deepen their understanding of drug-related science by conducting research in collaboration with a mentor from ACP, AMC, Wadsworth Laboratories, or The Ordway Institute. Ultimately, the research project concludes with both oral and written presentation of the results.

Qualified applicants must have a strong undergraduate record and, at the time of application, will have completed two of the four one-year science courses (Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Physics) required by AMC. In addition, applicants must articulate in writing the personal advantages they see in participating in this program, their goals and objectives for their remaining undergraduate years, and their view of how this program will enhance their capacities as a future physician.

Students who enter medical school from the ACP/AMC Early Assurance program will have a thorough understanding of drug development, from drug discovery and pre-clinical and clinical trials through marketing, clinical utilization and post-marketing surveillance.

If you have a strong interest in the pharmaceutical sciences and believe that this pathway will benefit your work as a physician or scientist, the Albany College of Pharmacy/Albany Medical College Early Assurance Program may be an excellent choice for you.
