PGY-4 Residents - Class of 2010

Kundandeep Nagi, M.D.
Albany Medical College

Kundandeep Nagi, MD was born in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, but moved with his family to the capital region at age 5 and graduated from Shaker High School.  Kundan was a student in the 7-year Albany Medical College/Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute combined physician/scientist program.  He graduated from college magna cum laude with a biology major.  During medical school, he did research with Dale Meyer on sinusitis, with Rob Schultze on deep lamellar endothelial keratopathy, and with John Simon on Botox.  He volunteers for the Albany chapter of Unite for Sight, teaches Indian music and enjoys tennis and basketball.

Abraham Sleem, M.D.
Mount Sinai School of Medicine

Abe Sleem, MD was born in Brooklyn, but spent his junior high and high school years in Jerusalem.  He was a chemistry and computer major at St. Johns University in Queens, where he earned the presidential scholar award with a 4.0 cumulative grade point average.  Abe was a medical student at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, where he did glaucoma research with Janet Searle.  He did his transitional internship at Maimonides in Brooklyn, and has recently just celebrated his first anniversary with his wife Janine, a college administrator at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, NY.

Brian Strickler, M.D.
Upstate Medical University

 Brian Strickler, MD was born at Albany Medical Center and grew up in the Albany suburb of Delmar.  He graduated from Williams College, where he was an All-American swimmer, in addition to finishing a triple major in Biology, Psychology, and Neuroscience.  Brian completed medical school at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, where he met his fiancé Abby.  Brian and Abby served their internships at AMC, and Abby is now finishing her training in pediatrics.  When not busy with their residencies, Brian and Abby enjoy hiking, skiing, biking, and just about any other activity that gets them outdoors.

PGY-3 Residents - Class of 2011

John Pratt, M.D.
Meharry Medical College

John Pratt, MD though born in the United States, John spent his growing up years in various parts of South America and Europe.  He graduated with a degree in French from Brigham Young University, which is where he met and married his wife, Kate.  He went to medical school in Nashville, TN at Meharry Medical College, where he did research in the function of the Beta-2 adrenergic receptor in asthma as well as research in comparing the VISX and LADARVision platforms in conventional LASIK.  John completed his intern year at the Medical College of Georgia, and then spent one year working as a general practitioner in Virginia prior to coming to Albany.  He and Kate are the parents of two beautiful children, and they enjoy spending every spare moment together as a family.

Ayo-Lynn Richards, M.D.
University of Michigan

Ayo-Lynn Richards, MD grew up in Huntington Woods, MI, and graduated from Oberlin College with a BA in Neuroscience and Biology. As a medical student at the University of Michigan she did research with Dr. David Zacks studying signaling pathways in the retina, which was published in the Archives of Ophthalmology. After medical school she completed her internship at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. In her free time, Ayo-Lynn enjoys reading, watching movies, dancing, and running.

 

PGY-2 Residents - Class of 2012

Mark Kropinak, D.O.
New York College of Osteopathic Medicine

Mark Kropinak grew up on Long Island and completed his undergraduate degree in business at Hofstra University.  After working in advertising for several years, Mark became interested in medicine.  He worked as an emergency medical technician while completing pre-medical training.  Mark graduated with honors from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine at Old Westbury in 2006.  He then proceeded to a transitional internship at Altoona Hospital in Pennsylvania.  Mark worked as an ophthalmic pathology fellow with Dr. Tatyana Milman at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in Manhattan.  He enjoys swimming and biking.

Jonathan Paul, M.D.
Boston University School of Medicine

Jonathan Paul grew up in Colorado but moved with his family to Arizona, where he completed his undergraduate degree in philosophy and microbiology at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff.  Jonathan worked as a dialysis technician at the Albany Medical Center before completing his MD at Boston University in 2004.  he did his transitional internship at Naval Medical Center in San Diego, during which he performed research with Dr. Steve Schallhorn on contrast sensitivity following refractive surgery.  He then completed naval flight surgeon training in Pensacola, Florida and was assigned to the naval air station in Kingsville, Texas.  His wife, Lisa Marie, begins nurse anesthesia training at AMC this year.

Robert Swan, M.D.
SUNY @ Upstate Medical University

Robert Swan grew up in the greater Capital District and graduated from Lake George High School.  He completed his BS in biochemistry as a summa cum laude graduate of SUNY Binghamton.  He then proceeded to medical school at SUNY Upstate in Syracuse, where he was elected to AOA and graduated cum laude in 2008.  Rob completed his transitional year at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.  He is looking forward to developing some research interests during his residency.  Dr. Swan and his girlfriend, Rebecca, especially enjoy camping in the Adirondacks.
